Nena and Chendita

In April 2019, our 3rd trip as Majestic 4 Missions, we traveled to Tecuala and received a request to pray for a woman in distress a few blocks from the church. Three of our team members arrived at the home of Chendita, where the door was ajar. We immediately viewed a tiny-framed woman standing inside. It became evident that she was blind. We were overtaken by her frailty. She was delicate and very precious and the mother of the woman we came to pray for. Although she suffered from physical limitations, it was impressive that her living space was well-kept. The tears of this sweet mother struck the mission team deeply. We all desired for God to move mightily. Chendita was desperate for heavenly intervention and prayer for her daughter.

The team had been informed that a witch had cursed this woman as a young teen and that Nena’s father (now deceased) had trafficked her to endure extreme sexual abuse. As a result, she had become so demonized that she had to be kept in a cell, sometimes chained, to restrain her from harm to herself and others. People feared Nena, but a mother’s love, be she poor and blind-sighted, continued to care for her year after year. It was said that Nena would scream at the top of her lungs, fighting the demonic oppression night after night for too long.

We exited out the back door of Chendita’s house into the yard area. To the right, inside a cinderblock room, the team first looked at Nena. She was so broken it was difficult to believe she could attack us. This crippled young lady was surrounded by cement blocks in a jail with bars on the window to contain her. She was sitting in a plastic chair in bare feet, making every effort to eat with her gnarled hands and knobby fingers. The team peered through the barred window and door, discerning whether entry into the cell was wise. We all prayed in the spirit and listened for the Lord’s direction. Immediately, a deep growl spoke from within Nena, “She is mine.” She began to curse and tell the team to leave. We inched into the cell cautiously, stepping closer to Nena when we heard a faint voice say, “Please help me.” A battle ensued to cast out the demons. It seemed Nena would rise within the fight to speak one minute, and the demons would spew their hatred the next minute. At one point, looking into her big brown eyes, we told Nena we love her, and Jesus loves her, and that we were not yelling at her but at the demons to make them leave. We told her it wasn’t fair what people did to her, and we were so sorry for her pain. “Ask Jesus to help you, Nena. He will save you!” Eventually, the interaction began to improve. There seemed to be a shift, a release within Nena. We all hoped that this unfortunate woman’s torment had ended.

A few days later, as the team piled into the van to depart for our next engagement, a lady who helped care for Nena and her mother ran to tell us that the one imprisoned had been quiet for two days. Apparently, this had never happened before. The yelling had stopped! We all rejoiced! Three days after that, we received word that Nena had died peacefully. We all knew in our hearts that Nena was with Jesus, and we praised God for delivering her from a life of war, receiving her into His eternal hands.

Update April 2023: We recently asked our Tecuala pastor to visit Chendita and discovered that the son caring for her had also died. The last living relative of this blind woman, a grandson, lives with an illness and cannot work to offer support. Therefore, her living conditions have grown squalid without financial help from her son to pay for care.

If you want to donate to improve Chendita’s quality of life, please indicate “Chendita” when you contribute to Majestic 4 Missions.

Note: Nena’s mother, Chendita, granted permission to share their story and photos.
