Tuxpan is a beautiful coastal town located in the state of Nayarit, Mexico. It is situated on the Pacific Ocean and is known for its beaches, rich cultural heritage, and friendly locals. The M4M team can attest that the people are indeed warm and welcoming. Lush forests and mountains surround Tuxpan, rich in history and culture, a town with several historical landmarks and museums. Overall, Tuxpan is charming and picturesque and perfect for those who want to experience Mexico’s natural beauty and rich culture.
The town’s main church, Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, is the center of Catholic life in Tuxpan. People celebrate the Assumption of Mary feast yearly, a most important religious festival in Tuxpan. The celebrations start on August 8th with a procession through the streets, where the men carry the image of the Virgin of the Assumption dressed in traditional costumes. The parade ends at the church for Mass, followed by fireworks afterward.
In addition to the church, Tuxpan is also home to several other religious sites, with one of the most popular being the La Cruz del Calvario, a hill with a large cross that sits high, offering a brilliant view of the town and the Pacific Ocean. The mountain is a popular spot for meditation and reflection; many visitors climb to the top to pray and contemplate. Another important site is the Santuario de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, a small chapel on the town’s outskirts. The Virgin of Guadalupe is the patron saint of Mexico and a symbol of Catholicism in the country.
